Downtown Windsor Engineering Building
2008
While Passa Architects were working as part of the architectural design team for the proposed University of Windsor New Engineering Building, an effort was made by the City of Windsor and the local downtown business association in convincing the University of Windsor to reconsider the location of the proposed New Engineering Building from being on the U of W campus to having a new Engineering Campus being created within the downtown Windsor core.
Passa Architects were requested to provide an image of the scale of the required square footage and proposed a curvilinear design for the campus linking the disparate building sites provided while exhibiting a gateway building stepping up into the downtown core. The building would have been a showpiece of environmental stewardship with its energy saving techniques as well as being completely covered with green roof terraces. The complex was intended to create various treed public spaces as well as an outdoor theatre around the structures with the built forms contextually relating to the surrounding buildings.
